As you know, distance is not an issue for us here at Montreal Breakfast Review. If there is even the slightest rumour of a place off the island that is serving up an exceptional brunch we will investigate. Normally, we tend to go west, sometimes up in Laval and even the south shore. This time we heard of something in Rosemère. Rosemère is the most Northern spot we have done yet, and we technically got lost there thanks to a certain online mapping instruction that shall remain nameless. Seriously??? 6 minutes from the exit? And there IS a difference between slight left and a normal left but no need to dwell on direction issues, we came here to eat..

Mildred’s Kitchen Temple – Classy, Sexy, Cool

On a recent trip to Toronto, my friend brought me to this place that is apparently a hot spot for breakfast in the city. Every time I travel to Toronto and visit my friend, I always end up going to a quality spot for brunch so needless to say, I was excited. We had been drinking the night before at my friends fundraiser, and although we knocked back more than our fair share of drinks, we were still in decent enough shape to put some food into our system.

Montée de Lait – Refined brunch experience

Once upon a time I promised one of my good friends that when she came back from her 5 month European excursion we would go to this place called Bouchonné. Well, 5 months turned to 6 then to 8 then to 10 and we finally got a chance to go for brunch only to find that it had closed down. We decided to check out Montée de Lait instead sinceI had heard good stuff about their lunch and dinner service. You may be confused when looking at the map since Bouchonné used to be on 5171 boul Saint-Laurent and Montée de Lait was on 1424 Bishop but Montée de Lait moved a few months ago, and all the Google maps and various site listings are presently messed up. So, now that we have this mini mystery straightened out we can focus on solving the mystery of how the food will stack up and see if this place is worthy of all the foodie praise it has been getting as of recently.

Marché De La Villette – Old world in the old Port

The Old Port has a bunch of nice spots for brunch; some are hotel brunches with buffets and full meals, others are really fancy and some are more laid back. Each has it’s own unique identity that makes the Old Port a fun and delicious area for brunch. Marche De La Villette makes itself unique by transporting you to France. This restaurant has that European butcher shop feel to it and pumps out some rather unique dishes.

Chien Fumant – Great food, great decor, great time.

Hidden in the plateau is an absolute gem of a spot that has only been open since December of 2009. I heard of it recently from a friend who told me that this place has been turning heads with its great décor, unbelievable food, and friendly service. Brunches are served on Sundays and it’s not an ordinary brunch. In fact, they tend to change up the menu so that each time you go it is a different culinary experience. I ended up going on two separate occasions to get a fair sample of their offering. Their brunches get various inspirations such as Brazilian themes, dim sum, Spanish themes and classic to name a few. You can find out what theme it will be by going on their Facebook page, (a website is up but it is still in development).

Over the last year and a bit there have been more and more places serving up English breakfasts. If you have ever had one then you know that it’s basically a hearty meal which often tends to have lots of meat and includes items like blood pudding, potatoes, and anything that would pass as a morning pub food.

Chez Levesque – Bistro meets Brunch and a touch of class

Brunch at Chez Levesque is something I have been wanting to try since I started this site. I have read various peer reviews of this place and all of them very positive; although, I do not know anyone that has tried it. For one reason or another I rarely end up in this area for brunch, so one day after trying out a yoga class in the area myself and two friends decided to try it out and see what it’s like and if the reputation is merited.

Griffintown Cafe – A little bit of country in the city

Over the last couple of years, Notre Dame street has brought us some interesting brunch spots, with its booming population, and sprawling developments. Griffintown café (not to be confused with Café Griffintown) is a place I was introduced to a little over a year ago. A group of us had dinner there and liked it. Over the last little while I had heard that they added weekend brunch to their offering. Considering I liked their dinner service, and I am a fan of the area, it did not take much to make me check out this spot and see how they handle brunch.

Cafe Melies – An unexpected treat on St-Laurent

On one of the first nice warm days of the spring we were lucky enough to be out for brunch. We needed somewhere new, somewhere decent somewhere that wasn’t our run-of-the-mill spot. As of recently I have been going to many new and unique places but there are lots of spots out there that have similar menus which sometimes puts me in a brunch rut and in need of inspiration. I went to my brunch map which has all the brunch places in Montreal including those that I have review and those that I need to review. As I analyzed it I saw Café Melies, a place that I read about on forums that got decent reviews. Café Melies is a restaurant next to the eXcentris theatre. You have likely passed by it dozens of times without ever going in. It’s situated north of Sherbrooke and south of Prince Arthur right before you get to all the clubs and bars but after all the supper clubs.

Café Cherrier – Old style Bistro time warp

Ever pass by that nice building on St Denis on the corner of Cherrier, you know the one with the nice canapé on it, terrace on the outside and giant painting on the exterior wall? I have and in fact, I’ve been asking myself that question for years. I once almost went inside but it was snowing and I was on the side of the street and the steady flow of traffic was in conflict with my love of jaywalking. But all that aside, I finally made it to the other side of the street to check out what Café Cherrier is all about.
