Burgundy Lion

Burgundy Lion – Pub style food with a pint on the side

The 411

burgundy-lion-exterior-smallOver the last year and a bit there have been more and more places serving up English breakfasts. If you have ever had one then you know that it’s basically a hearty meal which often tends to have lots of meat and includes items like blood pudding, potatoes, and anything that would pass as a morning pub food.

Griffintown Cafe

Griffintown Cafe – A little bit of country in the city

The 411

griffintown-cafe-exterior-smallOver the last couple of years, Notre Dame street has brought us some interesting brunch spots, with its booming population, and sprawling developments. Griffintown café (not to be confused with Café Griffintown) is a place I was introduced to a little over a year ago. A group of us had dinner there and liked it. Over the last little while I had heard that they added weekend brunch to their offering. Considering I liked their dinner service, and I am a fan of the area, it did not take much to make me check out this spot and see how they handle brunch.

Quoi De N’oeuf

Quoi De N’oeuf – another jewel in the Atwater crown

The 411

Quoi De N'oeuf Montreal BrunchAs some of you may or may or may not know I have become fond of the Atwater market area – it’s a place filled with great little shops, green spaces and great food. There have been a couple places that have been serving up some awesome dishes here and brunch is no exception. So when when my friend told me about one of his favourite places in the area I could not resist the chance to check out another place in the Atwater market area and chow down on some good eats.

McKiernan

UPDATE

Sadly McKiernan has closed it doors

McKiernan

The 411

mckiernan-outside-smallEvery once in a while I get recommendations for new places to check out and review. Often, they are places I have either already been to or heard of, although this time the suggestion for McKiernan was a surprise as it was entirely new to me. What was more interesting is that the person who recommended it to me claimed it served the best brunch in the city. Any declaration such as this had to be checked out. So, off we went to the Atwater market area and what we found truly amazed us.

At 1st glance

mckiernan-inside-cash-register-smallMcKiernan is a tiny little spot situated right near Joe Beef; it only serves brunch on Saturdays from 10am – 4pm. The place itself is small with capacity of around 20 seats and it has this amazing cozy little nook near the window where 2 can sit, chat, and eat. The decor is a throwback to a time gone by, but under no circumstance would one think it is old or not kept up. In fact, I find the style inside adds to the authentic dishes and flavours. In this post, I made sure to show more photos than normal of the venue, many of them are courtesy of Huge from Huge-photos.com You can tell his photos from mine not only by the water mark but also by the fact that he is a professional and they look much nicer.
