Restaurant La Grenouille

la grenouille brunch montreal interiorMount Royal street is a veritable Mecca of places to have brunch in Montreal. You only need to walk down a few buildings until you find a place. When we heard that la grenouille was making waves with it’s brunch we got curious and went to check it out. (more…)

Cardinal Tea Room

cardinal tea room tea pot

Cardinal tea room is a newcomer to the scene. Connected to Sparrow, which has been serving brunch for a few years now, this 2 floor old-style gem has that laid back feel with ample natural lighting and a more relaxed ambiance for brunching. Cardinal tea room has that British imperial style to it and, nothing says England like tea and cookies. The interior has two lovely floors flooded with natural light, bookshelves, a piano, a chalkboard, a steamer trunk and all those old style items that really make for quite the experience.

Lili Co

lili co montreal exteriorBack in October a new spot sprung up on Mentana. This small 26 seater has slowly been making a name for itself and gaining fans by offering some interesting dishes in a lovely environment. Now you may ask who is Lili? Well, we did and it turns out it’s the name of the little girl of the owner born at around the same time that they opened, and although I personally have no children (that I know of) I do tip my hat to anyone who opens a restaurant and has a kid at the same time. Because, each on their own is an incredible amount of work. (more…)

Maison Publique

The 411 Lots of buzz has been building over the last little while with the opening of Maison publique – a project coming from a team of famed Montreal Chef Derek Dammann (who brought us DNA) and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. The concept is a British gastro pub which, although may make one think of a dingy pub, is intended to be a more laid back resto with a pub style feel to it. With all these new openings we always have to revert to divine intervention in order to have them offer brunch on the menu, but we were blessed by these culinary heavyweights and they do offer a weekend brunch so all of us brunch lovers can get a chance to sample a brunch inspired by this new Montreal concept .

Rôtisserie Laurier BBQ

The 411 You may have heard about Laurier BBQ over the last year as the historic Montreal restaurant that worked with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey to give one of the most hyped renovations in Montreal’s restaurant scene. The relations with the celebrity chef have since ended but did you know that Laurier BBQ now offers a brunch menu? This made us very curious – a place that was quite popular and known for BBQ chicken is now doing brunch? Part of me was intrigued to try it since I never have and the other part of me wanted to see how you marry rotisserie chicken and brunch since you rarely see something like this.

Best of 2011 Montreal Brunch Review

Happy 2012 to all. With a new year ahead of us we look back on 2011 and take a look at the state of brunch in Montreal. We look at the new spots we discovered, some dishes we remember and we look ahead to see what new discoveries await us. Before we get started, let us take a moment to remember two brunch spots that have left us this year. Sadly, we’ve lost McKiernan and Montée de Lait this year, both of which were on my list of favourite spots and had some really creative dishes that were rarely found elsewhere. Fortunately, we added some new quality places on the list this year but these two favourites will be missed.

Best Brunch Terraces 2011

Best Brunch Terraces 2011

With summer in full swing, winter is but a distant memory. In Montreal, when the sun comes out so do the people and they head to terraces where they can have a tasty brunch and a great view to enjoy the weather. Fortunately, Montreal offers us loads of brunch spots with terraces. We have scoured the city in search of the perfect brunch terraces and have found some you may like. The list is not exhaustive and is intended to give you a spot or two to go to in each of the respective areas. We took a look at Outremont, the Plateau, Old Montreal and NDG.

Outremont has, arguably, the most options for brunch terraces in the city. All one needs to do is walk down Bernard street and see an ocean of people all seated in a variety of terraces. The list includes spots like Café Souvenirs, Senzala and Les Enfants terribles, La Moulerie, and Bistro Le Republique. There used to be le Petit Italien but they recently stopped serving brunch. Les Enfants terribles has one of the largest terraces, while Café Souvenirs is one of my favourite on the street. The menu offering at the majority of these spots is similar with the exception of Senzala, which has a Brazilian theme and is located west of du Parc. Though they may offer similar brunch options, the taste and overall satisfaction varies from person to person. If you wish to know more, just click on each link above and read the reviews (because right now we’re only talking about the ones that look pretty). (more…)

Cafe Eldorado

Cafe Eldorado – The return to Mt Royal

The 411

On Mount-Royal, there lies a spot I have been passing by for years but have never eaten brunch there. I’m not really sure why. I don’t go eat on Mount Royal as often as I used to since I now explore new areas; although the street is jammed with some decent spots to feed your morning appetite. Eldorado is a place you notice as you walk down Mount Royal, especially in the summer when the street comes alive with terraces and restaurants open up those large front windows.

Les Cavistes

Caviste – Festival en Lumiere treat

The 411

During Festival Montréal en Lumiere we get a chance to get a rare glimpe at some of Montreals restaurants make a brunch menu. Places like Caviste are more of a dinner restaurant and do not have brunch on their menu except for really rare occasions. With this narrow window to try out brunch at Caviste we booked a table and made sure to see how Caviste would handle brunch.
