Chez Gautier

NO LONGER OPEN

Chez Gautier – A gem hidding in plain sight

The 411

Hidden in the McGill ghetto Chez Gautier has been around since the 70’s yet few people would know that it serves up brunch. In fact, while I was at McGill most people living in the ghetto would go to the same spots and likely walk by this place countless times. Little did I know then that there was brunch to be had here, and not only is it a good deal, it is a very enjoyable experience both for food and dining.

Cafeteria

Cafeteria – Morning after remedy

The 411

In Montreal there are some staple places that, as a student, you go to after a night of hard partying and drinking. Sometimes you don’t have much time to make it to bed so you skip that and get some food. Now, if this has happened to you once, twice or maybe a few more times, then you know one of the spots you go to for this. That’s right: Cafeteria, St Laurent’s own little spot if you are done partying but don’t feel like straying from the street too much.

Plateau and Mile End Brunch Locations

Places to eat Brunch in the Plateau and Mile end

The following is a map of brunch and breakfast places you can find in the Plateau and Mile End. I defined this area by the political riding from the city of Montreal. The southern most point is Sherbrooke, the west sides are University and Hutchison (once you’re north of Pine) with Iberville on the east end and Bernard at the northern tip. I have also included the McGill ghetto since it is rather close by and small.

The Plateau/Mile End offers many good and well priced options. Two of the main areas of concentration are Mount Royal and Bernard street. In some instances you can walk 10 feet in any direction and find a place to eat brunch. So take a look and see what you feel like. Also, if you feel I missed some places please feel free to comment by posting a reply.

Place Milton

Ghetto Superstar

The 411

Going back to it’s inception in 1963, anyone who ever went to McGill University or lived in the McGill ghetto knows about Place Milton. Walk in the McGill ghetto and ask any student – they will not only point you in the right direction but they may even tell you a few stories on how their morning-after hangover recovery was aided by this place. Place Milton is a local legend in the McGill ghetto; its no nonsense menu and fair prices have brought people into its seats for years.
