Les Influences
The 411 Outremont is an area we are starting to explore again. Finally, after a few years there are some new places opening up. Recently, someone told me about this new place called Les Influences that offered a solid selection at a great price. Most Outremont brunch spots tend to be on Bernard street so finding something on Van Horne is refreshing since it’s kind of tucked away from all the crowds and line-ups.
At 1st glance Les Influences’ web site states that their culinary philosophy comes from Japanese, French and Chilean cuisine. This is an interesting combination and would make for an interesting brunch to sample. Les Influences is a nice wide, open spot with lots of windows letting in lots of light. Seating capacity is quite large and there’s lots of tables set up in the main dining area.
Food The menu, indeed, offers a bunch of varied items and even a kids menu item which is always nice to see. Most items on the menu are well under $10 and you get coffee and free refills with most items. The menu breakdown goes a little something like this:
We started off with a fruit juice ($3.75) for a small glass which was refreshing and helped start the day off nicely. This coupled with the coffee, which was included, were a nice treat.
The Parisien ($9.25) is a croissant and egg sandwich with Swiss cheese. It came with coffee, a side of potatoes, and fruit. This dish was filling and a spectacular deal consider they throw in coffee – you get a croissant sandwich with a side of thickly cut fruit and potatoes. I was not a huge fan of the potatoes but I rarely am; although, for value the fact that you can walk away full makes this dish a winner.
The Twist ($9.25) was a great deal that came with two French toast, two crepes, potatoes and fruit topped with English cream. I really liked the crepes – they were tasty and the English cream wasn’t too overpowering. The French toast slices were made of normal bread and I would have liked something of a thicker slice. I really enjoyed that it came with fruit, potatoes and coffee all for a bargain price. I mean this is a great dish in terms of value and you walk away full.
Service They checked up on us often, did an excellent job of explaining the menu and were good with the coffee refills.
Vegetarian There are loads of vegetarian options on this menu with 3 solid health items. It helps that it’s a large menu so you get choice.
Wrap up Les Influences does well in terms of value, generous portions, and service. They are not reinventing brunch but they make you leave there happy, full and with some change left in your wallet. Too many times have I paid $20 for brunch to leave still hungry. For this, Les Influences is a hit. I should note that I would have liked to see some more of that international cooking philosophy translate into their brunch but who knows what the future has in store for their menu.
