Les Folies

Crazy For Brunch

The 411

Situated at the gate of Mont-Royal’s Brunch alley, Les Folies offers all a good introduction into the what is Brunch on Mount-Royal

At 1st glance

With it’s big blue sign and terrace announcing itself to the world you can’t help but walk in and check out Les Folies. Once inside you see an interesting decor and a pretty solid menu. Although referred to by some as the “other L’avenue”, Les Folies does some things to distinguish itself.

Food

The menu is of fair size and offers some tasty options for all. The Mega weighs in at $11.95 with bacon, sausage, ham, 2 crepes, Emmental cheese, bread (really tasty bread) and a fruit juice. The Nordic Eggs Benedict ($12.50) is tasty and comes with 2 eggs and Emmental cheese which is different twist on an old favourite. The crepes Brunch section has 6 interesting options all priced at $10.95; each plate comes with bacon, sausage, ham, potatoes, bread and fruit. There are 8 omelette choices ranging from $8.95 to $10.50. The Santé menu has a fresh fruit plate ($6.95) and a fruit cup ($8.95) which comes with cereal, yogourt and nuts. There are 7 choices for the fruit cocktails ($4.95) and they are so thick your straw stands up on its own. The Tutti Fruti comes with strawberries, mango, raspberries, bananas, cranberry and pineapple. There used to be a banana and chocolate crepe on the brunch menu but they moved it to dessert and although it’s not on the main menu you should ask for it since it’s quite something.

Service

Service is considered fair, even if the waitress forgot to refill my coffee twice and took forever to find when we wanted to get the bill and leave. Ignoring that, she was pleasant and polite overall.

Vegetarian

There are some vegetarian options: the omelettes and menu Santé are a safe bet but many of the other plates do come with meat which you can ask them to hold. As for separate grills and/or vegan options you’re out of luck unless you try the fruit cup.

Wrap up

Line-ups are almost non existent and the terrace is very nice on a sunny day (great for people watching). The bread choice offered on the menu is very good and the food delivers; prices are ok and the taste is good overall.

To be honest, I would not have gone to Les Folies if it wasn’t for your review since my usual spot is L’Avenue, but I’m glad we did since the food was super yum. Big plate, great waitress and hardly any wait. I suggest trying the avocado-orange zest, it’s strange but oh-so-wonderful. Thanks for pointing this place out, I’ll definitely be going back.

Went there on a sunny happy hour after work. What a terrible service and attitude. My second and last time here ever. Talk about a business all about good location, but not much else. Personal was so rude with one of my friends who had a complaint. Never apologized, saying they’d been in business for years. Do not believe in brown nosing with clients. Just say things as they are. We left with our glasses and food nearly untouched. I do not recommend.

It’s gone downhill since 2008! I used to go there often (loved the terrace in summer). I’m not one to complain usually but I went twice this past summer and 1st time staff was rude, fruit wasn’t fresh, cheese had mold on it… Second time wasn’t better: my friend’s eggs were probably past the “best before date” and fruit wasn’t better. I rather wait in line for an hour and sit indoors but get fresh food at L’Avenue 🙂
