Cafe Sardine – Iwashi Izakaya

cafe sardine interior

The 411 Café Sardine is a place I have been to for dinner on a few occasions. I always enjoyed their menu and especially the décor. It has a tapas style dinner menu and some interesting combinations. It was one of those places that I always wondered what brunch would be like there.

Arts Cafe

The 411 Over on Fairmount, you will find Arts Café. It’s been there for years. I’ve passed by it many times without ever having the time to try it out. One evening, I was cornered by 2 friends saying that I never went to brunch with them. I felt guilty and scared for my life a little so we decided to do brunch and one of them had heard about Art Café so I figured it was finally time to give it a try.

La Raclette

The 411 For over 30 years, Restaurant La Raclette has been receiving patrons with its French and Swiss inspired menu. Within the last month or two, Restaurant La Raclette has begun offering a weekend brunch on the menu. When asked why, our waitress said that they wanted the brunch menu to match the dinner menu and respect the restaurant theme. Luckily, we now have a new brunch option a little more east, over on Gilford.

Santa Barbara

santa barbara interior

The 411 I have wanted to go to Santa Barbara for some time now. Something about it made me curious. Situated walking distance from the Jean Talon market, Santa Barbara is in an area that, a few years ago, no one would consider going, but now people have begun exploring and moving there. One day after a morning race, exhausted, dirty and hungry, we made it to Santa Barbara.

Les Accords

The 411 Normally, on a nice day when you feel like doing brunch in the old port, you would to McGill street and have your pick of a variety of spots. But sometimes you want something a little different, something you may not have tried before. This is where Les Accords on Notre Dame street comes to the rescue.

Brama

brama flowers little italy

The 411 Brama is a recent addition to the Brunch scene; a new restaurant in Little Italy whose name means “longing for” or “yearning”. Considering I am always yearning for brunch, I thought it was quite fitting to check it out. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the surrounding area has had some interesting restaurants popping up so the possibility of a foodie adventure is quickly rising.

Restaurant Su

The 411 Ethnic brunch is often a concept rather difficult to pull off. Many have a choice to make: you can go the classic Montreal breakfast route, disregarding their ethnic tradition; you can try to go full ethnic and put something traditional on the table at the risk of it being closer to lunch than brunch; and sometimes, you strike a balance between the two. Su is a Turkish restaurant that I’ve been to for dinner before and quite enjoyed the meals there. I’ve always gone with at least one Turkish person so they help in navigating the menu and make those hard decisions as to what to order.

La Lumiere Du Mile End

lumiere du mile end exterior

The 411 Over the last little while, Montreal has offered some Vegan and Gluten free menus. It’s a slow trend in general and for brunch, it’s even slower. Often people have difficulty seeing brunch without eggs or bread. There’s lots of dishes without meat but to be vegan and or gluten free is tricky. Also, to be clear – just because something is vegan does not make it gluten free and visa-versa. And there are some people who are both. So, where do you go if you want brunch and it has to be either something vegan or gluten free or both? Well, La Lumiere du Mile end is that place.

Julieta Cuisine Latine

The 411 Over the almost 5 years that I have been blogging, I have been surprised by a few things in terms of brunch and one is how well South American cuisine can be adapted to brunch. More so than simply my recent love for huevos rancheros but rather the discovery that chefs can creatively marry the South American cooking style with brunch.

Restaurant Evoo

evoo exterior

The 411 The growth we saw in the Atwater market a few years back has stretched west into Saint Henri. With this growth and expansion, you start seeing new restaurants opening up and serving brunch. Evoo is a rather recent addition to the scene and one weekend I was looking for something brand new, something I hadn’t seen at all and something that can surprise me so Evoo seemed to be like a good option.
