New York Brunch

So a few months ago we did our last NYC trip, “see you in 2015” is what we said when leaving the city. Then in early September we received a request to come celebrate a birthday double header. Now the only issue with this request is the half marathon we were supposed to run that weekend. The decision was not that difficult and after a short drive we were in New York with a weekend of fun ahead of us.

This time we had brunch all over New York City. In fact, we covered three boroughs in two days. Oh and we also had brunch double headers, that’s right, double brunch, two brunches a day. The double brunch is a tricky one. Most people are full after one brunch, but two is the hard maximum we can do. Fortunately this weekend was a weekend dedicated to excess.

Brucie

Brucie Brooklyn back

The 411 It’s summer and that means a trip down to New York – more specifically, Brooklyn. Brunch in Brooklyn is an adventure and we always manage to hit up unique and delicious brunches. As of recently, I have been putting down the camera while on vacation to simply enjoy brunch, but this time I just couldn’t help snapping some shots and sharing this gem.

Miriam

The 411 New York the land of Brunch! Every time we come here the is a brunch discovery awaiting us. This city that never sleeps, that is always moving seems to make the time for a weekend brunch with truly unique dishes and some liquid nutrition. This trip was no different. Last time we spent most of our days in Brooklyn but this time we did an even split between Manhattan and Brooklyn. However, the brunch was all in Brooklyn which has never let me down in terms of food options.

Hearth & Kettle

411 At the halfway mark of my Boston trip we went to Cape Cod for some camping and fresh air. Now, just because we are camping does not mean we are missing starting our day with some delicious brunch. So, one morning we drove into town looking for anything legit. Normally, I do research on these things but I didn’t think ahead so we took to the look around and waited for our spider senses to start tingling. It is that approach that brought us to Hearth and Kettle.

Bar Marché

The 411 Bar Marche entered my life many years ago before I began reviewing brunch places. During one of my first trips to New York, there were 4 of us exploring SOHO and we came across this little place. We were there just as they opened the doors so we decided to try it and we loved it. Now, fast forwarding to a couple of years later, a bunch of us were winding down our bender weekend in NYC and we ducked into Bar Marche to see if we could replicate the magic.

The Paramount

The 411 On a recent trip to Boston we went out searching for some brunch spots. One spot was a suggestion from a friend who said we needed to check out Paramount. Apparently, this institution has been serving up morning delights since 1937 – yes, that’s right, 1937. In my books, we call that an institution. What makes Paramount interesting besides the food and it’s history is that they have a system that they advertise quite well where you wait in line and by the time you get to place your order and get your food your spot is available to you to sit down. Even if you are a group of 10, like we were, they make it happen. In fact, their sign even says not to save any spots and that it has been working well since 1937. No joke, we got our table along with everyone else. The only downside to this is that the line up moved slowly and we ended up waiting for 45 minutes but we did get to see our food being made as we waited.

Diner NYC

Diner – A Brooklyn Experience

The 411

A few years ago, a couple of my friends and I went down to New York city for New Year’s Eve and had dinner in this street car turned restaurant in Brooklyn. I loved the food and the décor and kind of wish they did brunch. On a recent trip to New York, my friend booked us a table at this place that is supposed to have an amazing brunch. I was excited to have some New York city brunch and I trust my friend to pick a great spot so after a weekend of partying we made it to Diner, and it turned out it was the same spot!

Grey Dog NYC

Grey Dog – NYC trip part II

The 411

As part of our weekend New York city trip we got to check out some neat little brunch spots. In fact, we made it a point to get up and eat in the morning no matter how little sleep we got from the previous night’s excessive partying. We heard of Grey Dog from one of our friend who had been here before. They swore by it and we needed to check it out to see if it lived up to the hype..

Pastis NYC

Pastis – Culinary Excellence in NYC

The 411

On a recent trip to New York we ran into some weather issues, and by weather issues we mean Hurricane Irene. We had some ambitious brunch exploration plans but the day before the hurricane was scheduled to make landfall, we had to make the tough decision of heading home, but not before we went for brunch on the way out. I LOVE brunch in New York especially when I get a chance to check out a spot that is well regarded in New York food circles. New York has so many options for food and there are always new spots popping up everyday so doing a foodie brunch at least once was necessary.

Ihop

International House of Pancakes – visiting a legend

The 411

ihops-exterior-smallOn the way back from a trip to Cali a long plane ride and a lack of medical sedatives made for me being in need of sleep and food. When I don’t eat I get painfully cranky so in order to avoid an incident at the border I decided that I need to eat right away and I really wanted breakfast food. So having landed in Burlington we asked around for information on where to get breakfast. I asked at the airport, the parking lot and even in a grocery store with no luck. Most people didn’t know of any place to eat breakfast on a weekday early in the morning and when one person suggested McDonalds I almost cried but I think the emotion was masked by disgust, which I think she saw on my face (sorry I’m cranky when I’m hungry). Then, as if a sign from above, someone suggested Ihop’s and pointed us in the right direction.
