With Valentine’s Day around the corner, love is in the air and people start being a little extra romantic. Face it, you’re mid February, the summer is still far away and to be honest, if you forget this day the weather is not the only thing that will be frigid. I always get a few people asking me questions about where to go that would make for a nice little romantic outing. To be honest, finding a spot to start your day on a Tuesday morning is not that easy to find but there are people who will want to start the romance from the weekend so, this can be of help to you. Mother’s Day 2011 – Treat yo momma right
Ah yes, Mother’s Day; that special day when you give the thanks to that special someone who gave you life, who cleaned your diapers, fixed your scrapes and bruises when you fell, and loves you no matter what crime you commit. Mother’s day is possibly the one holiday that is synonymous with brunch. Last year, we did a Mother’s day article and this year we’re dishing on some possible spots to spend quality time with mom.
So the million dollar question is: Where to go? Do you do a buffet? Do you go somewhere fancy and glitzy? Or do you go somewhere more personal and quiet for a small outing? Each option works for different people. A buffet is great for large groups with different tastes and preferences, while a fancy spot offers that ambiance and refinement that only fine dining establishments can deliver. On the other hand, a small cozy spot is great for that intimate moment where you and mom can just talk enjoy a nice dish and coffee and let the day pass you by.
Valentines Day – Some helpful Brunch ideas for that special day
Ahhh, Valentine’s Day; that special day when all my favourites spots get filled up with couples. Well, this year it falls on Monday, which would make a Valentine’s Day brunch technically difficult; although that being said, expect people to be keeping busy the weekend before the big day. Last year I did a piece where I compared various spots to the kinds of relationships you tend to fall into. This year I’m going to keep it simple and give you the quick and dirty of what’s a good spot to go to based on décor and food, and overall experience (yeah I know that last one is kind of vague). So, for all those who ask for nice little romantic spots, here are a couple of spots that come to mind.
Cote Soleil: I love this spot with all my heart and soul (well not exactly that much) but the food is good, the ambiance is not too fancy yet still chill and the service is good, not too mention the tasty food and not your run of the mill dishes. It’s the little things that make me love this place like how their dishes will often come with some of the most varied types of fruit, this is something you will not often find at other places. Also, just recently I discovered this lovely little spot near the window that is a table for 2 that overflows with light and is slightly tucked away from other tables which makes for a nice romantic spot.
Birks Café By Europea – A truly refined dining experience
Fancy, that’s what comes to mind when you think of Birks; that and Bling of course! Now, why would Montreal’s fanciest jeweler show up on a brunch blog? Is it because they gave me loads of free bling? Unfortunately, no. (although if they want to message me, we can talk) Is it because they ditched the whole high end jewelry business model and switched to bacon and eggs? Not that either. It’s because they started offering a weekend brunch in their store. Yes, you heard it correctly, there is a weekend brunch offered inside of Birks on the second floor and not any ordinary brunch; it’s quite the experience. So ladies and gents, make space on your credit card, we’re off to see what Birks brunch has to offer.
