My boyfriend and I went to the p'tit cochon on Sunday and really enjoyed it - so I agree with your assessment. We found it a bit loud as the place was packed (with a line up - though we only waited a few minutes for a table) but the service was great (lots of coffee refills, never had to ask) and the food was really tasty. We both ordered from the "oeufs contemporains" section of the menu, my boyfriend had the "tourné/chorizo/champignons/swisse" and and I had the "poché/brie/épinards/pancetta" one. Both were delicious, came with two sides (we both took potatoes and fruit) and were plenty filling. The potatoes were the only disappointing part, actually. They were just ok - no special flavours were used. I think we have been spoiled at our regular haunt, Café Oxford in NDG (they use dill and it is lovely). The fruit was nice, varied and fresh though.

They actually do have a website now:
http://www.cochonsante.com/
with the menu and photos etc.

Although it's a little out of the way (and a little fancy, to be honest) to be a regular breakfast spot, we will definitely be back, especially for special occasions.

Thanks for your reviews! I am a big breakfast/brunch fan and am always checking your archives for new places to try.

Oh - and p.s. - Senzala (formerly on Bernard) has moved. It used to be one of my favourites but the last time we went we got rather a shock to find a Japanese restaurant it its place. We haven't been to the new location, but the website (http://www.senzala.com/) makes it look more evening/bar themed than breakfast-centric. I guess someone will have to check it out for us! : )

Totally agree this place is by far a cut above the rest, a hidden gem. We had the tasting menu (all in small portions): focaccia with house gravlax, grilled cheese, omelette and french toast with chai soy milk tea all for $14,95 approx.. The chef had a good rapport with us, explaining in great detail his ideas about suppliers, organic and local food etc. He appologized for the danish salmon but that he felt he had no choice considering there is no good local salmon that is up to his standards. Serving lady was polite and whitty charming. We will certainly be going back

And there you have why I love this website so much. It not only give you an inside look on a multitude of restos thus encouraging me to try something new, but it also opens discussion allowing others to share their experiences as well. In the end, it gives a more realistic review of any restaurant. Well done and thank you!

We went twice. The first time we went at 9:45 am and all the doors were locked despite advertising their brunch opening at 9 am. We were not amused. We then went back and brought a friend. They were clearly under staffed. The "manager" was out back coming up to the bar every 30 minutes or so to bring oranges, never looking like they bothered to want to to help their swamped staff by at least making the orange juice perhaps instead of leaving that to the waitresses who looked like deer in the headlights at night in front of their clients. The place was not even starting to be full, 4 or 5 tables max. This is pathetic for the price. But this is the manager's fault or the owner for not knowing how to staff their business properly.

We waited 30 minutes to be asked if we wanted drinks, we took mimosas and coffee. Then 20 minutes later they come back for the food order and we order then nobody asks if we want another drink, nada during the interminable wait.

When we finally get our food we get burnt toast with industrial pre sliced cheese "melted" on top in this crust of dryness as if under the warmer for too long, burnt "boar" bacon on the side that tasted rancid and over cooked egg in the hole. All was dry and needed water to be swallowed but then again, where was the water?!? No 2nd drink has been offered yet up to this point, I had to wave at them to come over and practically beg for a drink. And then the wait for the bill started. tic toc tic toc, how long can that be? For 100$ for 3 people, this experience left nothing but bitterness in my mouth. They don't know how to manage a restaurant and their food is plainly a big fail, nothing special there. A shallow place with incompetent staff and bad food. You can do better than this place, don't waste your money.

The food was quite good but the waiter was rude when we spoke English to him. He even pretended he didn't understand when my friend asked if they took debit card, but answered to me when I said it in French, even though the pronunciation is practically identical. It was simple question pronounced thousands of times in any restaurant around the world.

Our table had to ask twice to deliver our beverages and at least thrice for coffee refills (which was only refilled once). We were hardly checked on by our waiters and had to literally raise our hands to get their attention. I will not be going back. Food was just average..

You have got to be kidding! This place serve the most stale baked goods, including croissants! If they did not have that amazing terrace, they would have gone out of business many years ago...the food is absolutely horrid, and the service is terrible! You can get amazing, top notch breakfast/brunch in Montreal anywhere else but at Figaro's...it is just pretty cafe...that's all!
