Dame Tartine

Dame Tartine – Classic breakfast joint with a twist

The 411

Dame Tartine is a name I have heard of for some time now as it tends to be a favourite spot for a couple of people I have met and who have contacted me. It’s not in the area I usually review, in fact, it falls between where most of my reviews tend to be so it gets missed whenever I want to review something. But, finally one day, we felt like being adventurous so Dame Tartine came on the radar and off we went.

Fuchsia Epicerie Fleur

Fuchsia Epicerie Fleur – Vegetarian friendly brunch

The 411

It’s been over a year since I have tried a vegetarian or vegan brunch spot. In fact, there are only 2 spots in Montreal that offer a vegetarian or vegan brunch so when I heard that Fuchsia did vegan and vegetarian brunch dishes, I was doubly curious. I had read some things about it online and felt that it was time to see if there was another good vegan brunch option in the city.

Le Toasteur

Le Toaster – 3 years in the waiting

The 411

When I first started this site, Le Toasteur was a name I saw a couple times on various forums. I always felt it had a cool name and people seemed to have positive things to say about it. I never got a chance to check it out and I have even eaten a few times on Laurier street around there but I never got a chance to try it out. So, after almost 3 years (yes we’re almost there), I managed to make it to Le Toaster and see if it was worth my procrastination.

Galleria

Galleria – Laval’s answer to week long breakfast

The 411

I haven’t reviewed Laval in a while and for the most part, my reviews focus on the Island of Montreal; although, sometimes I like to stray to the north side and see what’s cooking. Galleria is a place I have passed by for years and every time I visit my friends in Laval I end up passing by it, always wondering what it would be like. Luckily for me, I have been here three times now and the past two occasions have been within the same month. As a result, I have been able to sample some of their brunch options.

Cafe Névé

Café Névé – A great local secret around the corner

The 411

There is a little café on Rachel street with a reputation for great coffee, a laid back atmosphere and reliable WiFi. Right at the corner of De Bullion and Rachel, this unassuming little place welcomes you in with its particular laid back vibe. With its sofa up front near the large window and, scattered tables where students can study and do group work Café Neve really offers that community experience. When my friend suggested I join her and get the Névé experienced, I couldn’t turn her down. I had heard about Névé before, mainly for its great coffee and decent prices, so when I found out that they offer breakfast, I had another reason to go.

Boite Gourmande

Boite Gourmande – A kid friendly brunch spot

The 411

boite-gourmande-smallRight under the Bikram yoga studio on Laurier is this bustling little place called La Boite Gourmande. This place is similar to it’s hot yoga neighbour in that it’s always full of people, without the 45 degrees of heat. La Boite Gourmade has always perplexed me. I keep passing by it and always wanted to go and check it out. This day, it just happened as we ended up wanting do something on Laurier street and I figured I could finally check this little spot out.

Kaza maza

Kaza Maza – Brunch Syrian style

The 411

kaza-maza-exterior-smallKaza Maza is a place I would never have gone to; I was told about it via a fellow blogger. Kaza Maza made a name for itself as being the Mirror’s Best of Montreal listing for one of the best new restaurants. It’s situated on Park and offers a Syrian cuisine in a nice environment.

Burgundy Lion

Burgundy Lion – Pub style food with a pint on the side

The 411

burgundy-lion-exterior-smallOver the last year and a bit there have been more and more places serving up English breakfasts. If you have ever had one then you know that it’s basically a hearty meal which often tends to have lots of meat and includes items like blood pudding, potatoes, and anything that would pass as a morning pub food.

Cafe Cherrier

Café Cherrier – Old style Bistro time warp

The 411

cafe-cherrier-exterior-smallEver pass by that nice building on St Denis on the corner of Cherrier, you know the one with the nice canapé on it, terrace on the outside and giant painting on the exterior wall? I have and in fact, I’ve been asking myself that question for years. I once almost went inside but it was snowing and I was on the side of the street and the steady flow of traffic was in conflict with my love of jaywalking. But all that aside, I finally made it to the other side of the street to check out what Café Cherrier is all about.

L’evidence

L’evidence – A gem of spot on St Denis

The 411

levidence-exterior-smallSt Denis is one of those streets that has tons of tucked away places that you may pass in front of dozens of times but only on the 13th time do you realize that a restaurant is actually situated there. That’s the case with L’evidence: I have passed by it for years and only when I met up with my friend and we decided to go for brunch at a new place was I introduced to L’evidence. My friend had known of this places for a while and me… well lets say I have eaten at all the restaurants north, south, east and west of it, but I never knew they did brunch. So, after I got my eyes checked, we went in and checked out what makes this place so special.
